Low tech Planted Tank - 20 Gallon Cube
A sculpture that will stand the test of time and a window to nature. This beautiful 30-gallon freshwater aquascape features a variety of aquatic plants, substrates, and hardscapes. I’ve added Bucephalandra crawling over the driftwood. Buce is an epiphyte that enjoys bright light, under the right conditions it will flower. For the foreground, I have selected 3 aquatic plants that will thrive under the same parameters. We have some Creeping Rush to give it height and a meadow feel, Wendtii Green for its bold green waxy leaves to add structure and a strong presence of green throughout. Next, we have Wendtii Bronze for its brown crinkly leaves, which will add a nice rustic, lived-in feel to the color palette. Tiger Lotus had to make an appearance because it is my favorite, but mainly to warm things up. With its deep shades of red and spackled leaves, The Tiger Lotus will end up becoming the focal point of this aquascape. Last but not least I’ve added Parva for a nice ombre effect, Parva is fantastic for detail work. Finally, Red Flint Sand and Gravel are paired for a seamless natural look.
This aquascape is best suited for a large community of small freshwater fish and/or shrimp. You could take a minimal approach when stocking, or not even add any livestock at all. Taking the fish out of the equation will help cut back on maintenance. Without the feedings and bioload, all you are left with is a garden to tend to. For the best blend of dynamic movement and low maintenance, lightly stocking your aquascape with colorful livestock is always highly recommended by us. Regardless of the fish you choose, you should be doing a 20-30% water change weekly like clockwork to keep the scape thriving.
